The video continues circulating. Marcus’s teenage daughter sees classmates sharing cruel comments about her father and asks whether he carried the man because he thought he was dying. Marcus answers that he was scared, and that in a real emergency he would rather be examined by police than ignore an unsafe place. They talk about why not every unconscious patient should be moved unless danger requires it. There was temptation to ask whether the original kindness had been worth the trouble. Adrian knew the question could never be answered fairly by counting only benefits. A decent response to hunger, injury, or fear did not become wrong because complicated consequences followed. At the same time, good intentions did not excuse careless decisions afterward. Both ideas could be true. The task was to keep learning what competent help required and to recognize the people who had supplied it, often without any public recognition at all. The conversation took longer than either person expected. They repeated part of it, not because anyone was lying, but because the first telling left out details that seemed insignificant until somebody asked the right question. Adrian resisted the temptation to supply answers for the other person. A pause could mean uncertainty, fatigue, grief, or simply the need to remember carefully. Letting it remain a pause was an act of respect. Outside the service alley, the light shifted and traffic passed. Inside, they attempted the less visible work of describing what had actually happened. The weather outside the service alley changed without consulting anyone's plans. Rain threatened, then stopped; a cloud moved across the street; a delivery truck blocked the view from the window. Adrian remembered these details more clearly than some of the spoken words. It was strange how memory preserved an ordinary sound while blurring a sentence that mattered. For that reason, the written notes became important. They allowed someone to return to the moment without relying on the most dramatic or flattering version of it. Small accuracy was a form of care. A familiar smell reached Adrian from the next room, and for a few seconds it recalled a completely different day. Memory connected people in strange ways, sometimes before they understood why. The mind assembled scenes from scraps of sound, color, and movement; later it tried to supply explanations. Adrian was learning not to trust those explanations without checking them. That did not make memory worthless. It simply gave personal recollection the role it could play honestly: revealing what someone had experienced, rather than pretending to settle every disputed fact. Time was moving forward. No answer came easily. He listened carefully. Still. Still.

He admits he could have handled parts of the scene better.
