The recording was reviewed by specialists before anyone showed it to Emily.
Jonathan wanted to protect the evidence and avoid conclusions based on damaged footage.
When he finally invited her to view the relevant sections, Thomas and Walter accompanied her.
The video showed the depot's maintenance platform.
Daniel appeared at 8:42 p.m., carrying a clipboard.
He inspected the railing, bent toward the missing safety gate, and pointed at something outside the camera's view.
Several minutes later, Richard Mercer entered the frame.
The men argued.
There was no audio, but Daniel's movements were unmistakably urgent.
He held up a document and repeatedly pointed toward the open section of the platform.
Richard gestured angrily toward the exit.
Then Arthur Whitcomb arrived.
Daniel stepped backward.
The recording became grainy.
A warning light flashed.
Daniel turned toward the platform's edge as a piece of equipment moved behind him.
He reached for a barrier that was no longer there.
Then he disappeared from view.
Emily covered her mouth.
Thomas leaned forward.
No one spoke.
After several seconds, Richard moved toward the edge.
Arthur remained standing beside the equipment.
Neither appeared to immediately summon help.
The footage ended moments later.
Jonathan stopped the recording.
Emily stared at the blank screen.
Her father's death had not been caused by a deliberate shove, at least not according to what the camera showed.
But the video contradicted the claim that he had removed the safety gate himself.
It also showed that he had been confronting company leadership immediately before the fall.
The official report stated he was alone.
That was false.
Emily began crying.
Walter placed a hand on her shoulder.
For years, she had imagined her father dying because of one careless mistake.
Now she had watched him trying to warn the very people who later blamed him.
Thomas closed his eyes.
"I should have listened."
Emily turned toward him.
"You didn't know."
"I could have asked more questions."
She looked back at the screen.
"My father did the right thing, didn't he?"
Jonathan nodded.
"The evidence strongly supports that he was reporting a dangerous condition."
Emily wiped her cheeks.
"Then I want the record corrected."
And for the first time, the investigation had a path toward doing exactly that.
