"That's impossible. Someone planted that." His attorney grabbed his arm, trying to quiet him, but Mercer pulled away.

"This is all lies. Vance set me up." The judge banged his gavel.

"Defendant will remain silent or be removed." The prosecutor played her final recording. Hollis's roadside conversation with Mercer after Marcus's credentials were discovered.

The lieutenant's voice was clear through the audio system. "We'll handle this quietly. Write it up as suspicious behavior during a routine stop.

Don't mention the FBI thing unless someone asks directly." The courtroom went completely silent. Hollis's own words proved he had orchestrated the cover-up from the beginning.

Hollis suddenly pointed at Mercer. "I never told him to steal anything. He acted on his own."

"Yet you protected him," the prosecutor responded. We found three previous civilian complaints against Mercer that you dismissed without investigation. Same pattern of excessive searches, same lack of proper justification.

She displayed the complaint files recovered from Mercer's locker. Different victims, different dates, but identical dismissal signatures from Lieutenant Hollis. Mercer exploded from his chair.

"You taught us how to write these reports. You said creative language protects the department." "Sit down," his attorney hissed.

"No, I'm not taking the fall alone," Mercer shouted. "Hollis showed every sergeant how to justify questionable searches. He said courts never check timestamps against body cameras."

The judge threatened removal, but Mercer continued ranting. "He protected me because protecting me protects him. Every supervisor knows how this works."

Hollis's attorney looked mortified as his client's own sergeant destroyed both their defenses simultaneously. The prosecutor smiled grimly. "No further questions."

Federal agents stood from the back row, moving toward both defendants as the judge reviewed the evidence totals. Marcus watched silently as handcuffs clicked into place. The federal agents escorted Mercer and Hollis to separate holding areas while the judge addressed the remaining business.

Marcus remained seated, watching his tormentors disappear through different doorways. Their shouting had finally stopped. Judge Richardson shuffled through his papers with methodical precision.

"This hearing will conclude with formal determinations regarding Agent Vance's status and the defendants' charges." The prosecutor stood. "Your Honor, the evidence clearly establishes Agent Vance's complete innocence of any wrongdoing.

The FBI requests his immediate restoration to active federal duty without restriction." "Agent Vance," the judge said, "you are hereby cleared of all allegations. Your federal assignment is restored effective immediately.

Your security clearance remains unaffected." Marcus felt tension drain from his shoulders. 20 years of federal service had survived Mercer's destruction attempt.

The judge continued reading. Sergeant Travis Mercer faces federal charges including obstruction of justice, evidence tampering, theft of federal property, and falsifying official records. Lieutenant Wade Hollis faces charges of conspiracy, obstruction, and willful suppression of civilian complaints in violation of federal civil rights statutes.
