The next morning, the wedding photographer called Thomas before breakfast. She had not seen the photographs circulating online until an assistant sent her a link. A guest had posted a short video of Oliver pointing at the bride, followed by the church doors opening. Commenters were already claiming that Claire's sister had planned to marry Thomas and steal his wealth. Others joked that the family staged the entire scene. Thomas asked the photographer to preserve her original files, including the minutes before the ceremony. The photographs showed Mara avoiding close contact with Ellen and keeping her left hand behind the bouquet. One picture caught Oliver looking at a glove cuff while everyone else watched the minister. The story was spreading faster than the facts. Claire's attorney, Priya Shah, advised them to let investigators establish the criminal case and to avoid making accusations beyond what they knew. Priya also had urgent news: the prospective purchaser had received the false message but had not transferred ownership or funds. The revised sale agreement had not been signed. A buyer representative nevertheless insisted that Claire's approval by text had triggered an obligation under a preliminary exclusivity letter. Priya disputed that interpretation and demanded that all communications be preserved. The factory would continue operating under its existing management while the contract dispute was resolved. When Claire came home, she found Oliver asleep on the couch with the blue-thread glove tucked beneath his cheek. She lifted it away and sat beside him. Thomas took her overnight bag, then hesitated in the doorway. Their separation months earlier had come after years of exhaustion, worries about the factory and long silences neither knew how to end. They had reconciled in therapy and made a decision to remarry because they wanted to, not because Oliver needed a perfect photograph. Now she wondered whether the ceremony had been a mistake before it even began. 'I didn't see how frightened you were yesterday,' Thomas said. 'No,' Claire replied, 'but neither did I. I thought fixing everything at once would make us safe.' They agreed not to reschedule a wedding until the immediate danger passed. Ellen visited that afternoon carrying a box of old family photographs. Most showed Claire and Mara at ages when they were nearly indistinguishable. Ellen placed the box between them and admitted that she'd spent years making excuses for Mara's lies. Then she removed a photograph she had hidden at the bottom.  The original invitations remained in a box beside the refrigerator. Claire refused to discard them immediately because Oliver had spent weeks helping address the envelopes. They stayed a little longer. He waited. It showed Mara with a man Thomas recognized from the factory buyer's negotiating team.
