Claire sprinted across the concourse when an employee paged her name. Her sister’s voice came through bright and breathless. “Mom told me.” “I’m sorry.”

“Stop.” “I’m trying to get there.” “I know.” “I should have flown yesterday.”

“You had to work.” “I should have quit.” Rebecca laughed. “That seems disproportionate.”

Claire pressed her forehead to the metal wall beside the phone. “You are getting married without me.” “I am getting married with or without weather cooperation. That’s different.”

Claire’s eyes filled.

Rebecca continued gently. “Listen to me. If you miss the ceremony, we will hate it. We will survive it. You are not Dad’s funeral. This is not punishment arriving twice.”

Claire closed her eyes. “How did you know?” “Because I am your sister and because you have been apologizing for one storm for three years.” Claire looked across the terminal. Jack stood twenty feet away pretending to study a vending machine so she could have privacy.

Rebecca’s voice brightened. “Also, Mom says there is a handsome man.” “Oh my God.” “What’s his name?”
