He arrived in a navy suit and no tie, looking tired but controlled. Sloan was not allowed into the meeting. Harrison’s attorney attended by video. The findings were plain.

Harrison had approved a related-party vendor without disclosing his personal relationship. He had charged work to an unrelated project account. He had made representations to outside designers implying corporate support for a development concept not approved by the board. He had not personally enriched himself through direct cash transfers, but his conduct exposed the company to financial and reputational risk.

Harrison apologized. At first the apology sounded like corporate language. Then Sharon Kim asked him a simple question. “If a vice president with a different last name did this, what would you recommend?”

Harrison stared at the table. No one rescued him. After a long silence, he said, “Termination.” Eleanor felt something inside her tighten.

Daniel Price asked, “And why should the board treat you differently?” Harrison looked at his mother then. Eleanor held his gaze. He could have said because I am family.

He could have said because I built projects here for thirteen years. He could have said because the work was real or because the money could be repaid or because no one intended harm. Instead he said, “You shouldn’t.” That was the first honest thing Eleanor had heard from him in weeks.

The board voted four to zero to remove Harrison as vice president immediately. They did not terminate him from the company entirely. Instead, after a long debate, they offered him a non-management project role at reduced compensation, with no spending authority, mandatory ethics training, repayment of the improperly allocated consulting charges over time, and a twelve-month review before any possible advancement. The offer existed partly because his prior work record was strong and partly because the board believed discipline should be proportional rather than theatrical.

Eleanor did not design the terms alone. That mattered to her. Harrison had seventy-two hours to accept. He walked out of the meeting without speaking to her.
