Three days before the wedding, Emily escaped from an isolated rental property outside Harrisburg.

For months, she had been confined in a locked section of the house under the supervision of two people who insisted they were protecting her from supposed psychological instability.

They controlled her access to communication.

They claimed her family wanted nothing to do with her.

Whenever she demanded legal assistance, they told her Victoria was handling the situation.

Emily survived by pretending to accept their story.

She learned the household routine, memorized which doors remained locked, and watched for changes in the guards' schedules.

Eventually, a plumbing emergency forced a maintenance contractor to enter the property.

Emily managed to slip a short handwritten note into his toolbox.

The message contained her name and a request to contact authorities.

The contractor found it that evening.

He reported it.

Before officers could reach the property, Emily escaped through a rear service door left unsecured during repairs.

She walked to a nearby gas station and borrowed a telephone.

But the first person she contacted wasn't Daniel.

It was an attorney named Rebecca Hayes.

Rebecca had once represented Claire Bennett in a dispute involving a charitable foundation. Emily trusted her because Claire had trusted her.

Rebecca immediately arranged for Emily to speak with law enforcement.

Emily provided an initial account and explained that Victoria's wedding was scheduled for Saturday.

She feared the marriage would give Victoria additional opportunities to influence Daniel's assets and decisions.

The authorities began examining her allegations.

But Emily was determined to confront Daniel personally.

Against legal advice, she traveled to the hotel early on the wedding morning.

She carried copies of records she had hidden before her disappearance and a storage device containing evidence obtained from an accountant.

She intended to ask Daniel to postpone the ceremony until the documents could be reviewed.

Instead, someone intercepted her near the service entrance.

Emily remembered a wedding staff member approaching with a clipboard.

The woman said Rebecca was waiting in a private meeting room.

Emily followed.

Then a man grabbed her from behind.

She was restrained and taken through a maintenance corridor.

By the time she regained her bearings, she was behind the flower wall.

Daniel stared at her.

"Who was the woman?"

Emily shook her head.

"I'd never seen her before."

"Did she mention Victoria?"

"No."

She hesitated.

"But the man said something."

"What?"

Emily's voice dropped.

"He said the bride wanted me quiet until the signatures were complete."

Daniel felt the room tilt.

"What signatures?"

Emily gripped his hand.

"Daniel, Victoria wasn't just marrying you. She was planning to make you sign a new family asset agreement that evening."

He remembered a leather folder Victoria placed in the bridal suite.

She told him it contained routine documents for their financial adviser.

He hadn't opened it.

Emily began crying again.

"Please tell me you didn't sign."
