Maya watched them work.

She knew what a false record looked like.

In her industry, companies rarely admitted bias directly.

They buried it inside categories.

Difficult customer.

Unverified complaint.

Escalated tone.

Service misunderstanding.

Noncompliant user.

The words changed, but the purpose stayed the same.

Make the person harmed look like the cause of the harm.

Ethan typed with focus.

Clare whispered, "Should we mention the medical meal?"

"We mentioned she refused alternatives."

"She's on video saying allergies."

"Then we write that she claimed allergies but refused crew-provided options."

Clare looked toward Maya.

"Lena has the peanut packet on camera."

Ethan stopped typing for half a second.

"Then we do not mention peanuts."

Clare swallowed.

"And the coffee?"

"She became agitated during beverage service."

Clare's eyes flickered.

"That's not exactly..."

Ethan looked at her.

"Do you want to explain why you grabbed something from her hand?"

Clare went quiet.

Maya could not hear every word, but Lena's phone was angled toward the galley, capturing their posture, their whispering, the way Clare kept glancing back at the cabin like a child caught near broken glass.

Lena sat beside Maya now with permission from the older woman across the aisle.

Margaret had traded seats temporarily so Lena could stay close.

It was not official.

It was not approved.

It was human.

"How are you feeling?" Lena asked.

"Better than 20 minutes ago."

"That is not the same as well."

"I know."

Lena checked her again with the calm precision of someone used to making decisions under fluorescent hospital lights.

"Your hands are steadier. The juice helped, but you still need real food."

Maya looked toward Victoria's seat.

The tray was gone now.

Clare had taken it away, but everyone who mattered had seen the label before it disappeared.

Maya's phone buzzed again.

Naomi.

This time Maya opened the message.

Crestline prep team says Whitman wants confirmation. You're still attending tomorrow. Are you delayed?

Maya typed slowly.

I am on Crestline Flight 608. Incident on board. Preserve all contract files. Do not contact Crestline yet. Legal standby.

Naomi replied within seconds.

Are you safe?

Maya looked at the peanut packet beside her confirmation email.

Then toward the galley where Ethan was writing her into a lie.

Not entirely. I will update when we land.

She locked the phone and placed it back beside the email.

Samuel Reed leaned across the aisle.

"You told someone?"

"My assistant."

"Good. She'll worry."

Samuel nodded.

"That's what good people do when they care."

Maya let that settle.

Care had become visible in strange places tonight.
