"I wasn't going to."
She looked at him.
"Good."
Then she turned to Maya.
"Miss Williams."
Maya did not stand yet.
"Yes."
"I understand there was an incident involving a meal accommodation."
Lena spoke before Maya could.
"There was medical neglect and a threat of arrest."
Denise looked at her.
"And you are?"
"Lena Ortiz, emergency nurse. Seat 3A. I have video, blood sugar readings, and a timeline."
Denise's expression changed.
Not dramatically.
But enough.
"Please remain available."
"I plan to."
An airport police officer stepped forward.
Ethan glanced at him and seemed to gather confidence from the uniform.
"Officer," Ethan said, "this passenger continued recording after crew instruction and created a cabin disruption. We requested law enforcement presence as a precaution."
The officer looked toward Maya.
She was seated, pale, composed, with a printed medical confirmation still on her tray table and a peanut packet beside it like an accusation.
He did not reach for cuffs.
"What exactly is she accused of?" the officer asked.
Ethan paused.
"Noncompliance with crew instruction."
"What instruction?"
"To stop recording."
The officer looked at Denise, then at Maya.
"Was there a safety threat?"
Maya answered calmly.
"No. I was seated the entire time. I recorded after my coffee was taken from my hand. My confirmed medical meal was served to another passenger, and I was threatened with arrest."
Lena added, "She was also symptomatic. I asked for juice and safe food. The crew did not respond. Another passenger gave her juice."
Margaret lifted her hand.
"That was me."
Samuel said, "I saw the whole thing."
David added, "So did I."
The officer looked back at Ethan.
"That doesn't sound like a restraint situation."
Ethan's mouth tightened.
"You're hearing one side."
Denise Harper looked around the cabin where at least six phones were still visible.
"I suspect we're hearing several."
Victoria tried to move toward the door.
Denise stopped her with one hand, polite but firm.
"Mrs. Langford, please remain here."
Victoria stiffened.
"I am a passenger. You cannot hold me."
"No one is holding you," Denise said. "But corporate legal has requested your contact information and statement before you leave."
"My statement can go through my attorney."
"That is your choice."
Victoria lifted her chin.
"Then that is my choice."
As she stepped forward, a young man from the first row of economy held up his phone.
"Mrs. Langford, did you know it was her medical meal when you ate it?"
Victoria spun toward him.
"Do not film me."
The airport officer raised a hand.
"Everyone, keep the aisle clear."
Victoria put on sunglasses even though it was after midnight inside an aircraft.
She pushed past the ground manager and disappeared into the jet bridge, but not before two passengers captured the image of her leaving with her head down and her handbag clutched tight.
Clare watched her go with something like disbelief.
